Another Christmas

Well another Christmas gone and none too quickly I might add. I am getting to the point that Christmas is just one mass marketing ploy to divest us of cash while giving others the fruits of my labor. Christmas is for kids. I am of an age that I can buy pretty much anything I really want. My one sister and I have started to make donations to each others favorite charities. I like the way it feels to give to causes that matter to me. The "Big Guy" (my sweet husband) and I usually talk it over and pick 1 charity. Last year we bought coats for a "Coats for Kids" drive that our local Civitan Club was having. This year it was toys for the "Toys for Tots" drive the Marine Corps does every year. Well bah humbug from me...a piece of pumpkin pie is calling me.

2 Feb 2010

I just read today that a well known politician (read here Speaker of the House) has flown her unaccomanied family members on Air Force planes... from coast to coast..(read here FOR FREE) well not totally free..you and I are paying the bills with our tax dollars! How did this ever get this bad? I really think the answer is somewhere in the range of complacency. I think the worst part is how are we going to change this? Our founding fathers didn't make political office their whole reason for existing. They had real jobs..like farming..and only got together as a group when something vitally important has to be done. They were not paid !!! They didn't gratis, reserved airport parking places, free leased cars with a govt. paid gas card. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ??? Please don't get the idea that I am ragging on the Democrats..I include republicans in here too. I have officially resigned my membership in the Republican party and am looking for another viable option. Any ideas??

So depressed today...

There will come a time ( and it's rapidly approaching) when I either can't or won't listen or read the news anymore. It seems like "our goverment" just doesn't care about what "we the people" want or the direction we want our country heading. Everyone I talk to is unhappy with what's happening i.e. seeming unending bailouts, bigger and bigger government, more and more intrusions into our everyday lives, higher taxes and freebies for people who don't earn them.

Have you ever heard of "Earned Income Credit"? It's proper name should be UNearned income credit! Individuals in this country with low incomes and actually get MORE tax refund money than they paid in! An example is a neice of mine, she has kids. She earns above minimum wage but not by much. She can't qualify for any type of Gov't assistance and she pays approx. $400.00 a year in federal taxes (that is $$ taken from her paycheck). When she files her income tax, she qualifies for earned in credit and get back about $5000.00 each year. That's right....way more than she puts in. I think that everyone in this country should pay (even a nominal amount) towards the running of this country....I don't care if it's $1.00 a month..contribute SOMETHING.

I guess that ends my rant for now..If you read this..thanks

My America

I started this blog as a means of letting out or vetting my opinions and/or concerns about where this country is heading. I've been around the block a few times and what I see in our country today scares the BeJesus out of me. Since this is my first post please bear with me and hopefully (lol) this will get better. Today I'm tackling oil. We need so much oil..prices keep rising..and because we get most of our oil from foreign sources, we have NO control over prices. Why not drill in our own country? Several attempts have been made to persuade people, on both coasts, to drill off shore. The oil rigs would be out about 11 miles or more and would not even been seen from land..yet people keep resisting the idea. Wake UP Folks!! We will never really be in control of our future as long as we are so highly dependant on others. Yes it would cost alot of $$ but at least the money would stay in this country, putting people to work. The are different opinions on how much oil we could produce but it would last us for hundreds..yes..hundreds of years. Thanks for reading and that's it for today
